We kick off our profiles of South Baldwin Chamber board members with April Boone, president/CEO of Global Marketing Solutions.
When April started the marketing company as a one-woman show in 2005, she could hardly have foreseen where the road would lead. Specializing in tourism and hospitality, the full-service firm now has more than 30 team members providing services such as website design, social media marketing, mobile app programming, content marketing, reputation management, and video and photography services.
With a strong belief in giving back to the community, April was honored to be asked to serve on the South Baldwin Chamber of Commerce board of directors. This is her fourth year on the board, serving her second term.
Being the chair of the Communications Committee seemed a natural fit. The committee assists all other committees and chamber staff with their efforts, and ensures communication efforts are consistent, clear and concise.
“We also work with the membership to ensure their voices are heard on a variety of topics,” April said.
April serves as a steward for the chamber’s vision and mission, volunteers wherever possible and represents member businesses to ensure their needs are met.
“It is important to our chamber that the board comprises a wide variety of business types and sizes,” April said. “My service on the board helps with that.”
She said even more important, it is a way to contribute her time and abilities in a manner that helps many businesses as well as the chamber itself.
“Community involvement is important to our company, as is making sure we give back to the area that supports us and that is our home.”
The chamber benefits GMS “in so many ways it’s challenging to list them all!”
“We have a real sense of the important challenges our business community faces; we have a voice in our collective future, but more important, we are allowed the opportunity for deep listening - we are honored to be at a literal and figurative table of experts on a variety of topics,” she said.
Being part of the chamber also gives GMS first-hand knowledge and awareness of the amazing things happening here, she said, “and we can lend our talents to issues of great importance for our county."
“We also meet amazing people and learn so much about their businesses, endeavors and problems.”
GMS is involved in several chambers and other organizations, but April said the South Baldwin Chamber is unique and possesses a strength of leadership you don’t always find.
“SBCC walks the talk and truly has its membership’s best interests at heart in all they do,” she said. “It’s an amazing organization to be a part of and work with for our future success.”
A self-described “Army brat,” April has traveled extensively and lived in Germany, South Korea, many states and a dozen cities in the U.S., but she and her husband, John, choose to make their home in Foley.
Having battled cancer multiple times, April appreciates the simple things - a balcony with a beach view, a good book, and spending time with friends and family.
