The City of Foley is accepting applications for the position of Equipment Operator I in the Street Department. Under general supervision, position is responsible for maintaining and construction of roadways and drainage, setting up transit and calculates grade for proper elevation in drainage areas, understands underground utility color code and location protocol as well as damage response. Performs general labor duties to include asphalt paving, shoveling, jackhammering, chainsawing, equipment maintenance, directing traffic, lifting and carrying concrete bags, basic carpentry work, and masonry work. Must be able to operate small to mid-size tractor with box blade/front loader, CTL, rubber tire forklift, and backhoe for lifting. Utilizes a variety of tools and/or sets of tools such as air operated post driver, impact wrench/drill, auger, small crane, weed eater, edger, blower, mower, and industrial sprayer. Reports to the Street Supervisor.
Requires a High School Diploma or its equivalent and (1) year of experience in a job-related field, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. The ability to physically operate a variety of heavy machinery and equipment is a must, along with the ability to exert up to 80 lbs of force to push, pull, or move objects, and lift/carry weights of up to 100 lbs. Class B Commercial Driver’s License is preferred.
Starting salary is $14.42 an hour with excellent benefits including paid health, dental and life insurance, retirement through State of Alabama Retirement Systems, paid holidays, vacation, and sick leave. Successful applicant must pass both a drug test and a full driving and criminal background check.
