Foley Wins Sixth Consecutive National Budget Award

FOLEY – Foley continues to receive national recognition for financial reporting.

The Foley Finance Department received the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award from the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada. The recognition is the sixth-consecutive Distinguished Budget Award for the city’s Finance Department.

The award, recognizing the 2025 budget, represents a significant achievement by the department.

“It reflects the commitment of the governing body and staff to meeting the highest principles of governmental budgeting,” A GFOA statement said. “In order to receive the budget award, the entity had to satisfy nationally recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation.”

The guidelines assess how well the city budget serves as a policy statement, financial plan, operations guide and communications device.

The Foley budget had to be rated “proficient” in each of the four categories and 14 mandatory criteria within the category to be approved for the award.

More than 1,700 cities and other entities participate in the Budget Awards Program.

Foley has also received the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for 11 years. The city has also received the Award for Outstanding Achievement in Popular Annual Financial Report five times.

The GFOA has presented all three awards to Foley in the same year, a distinction referred to as “the triple crown,” for five years.

Foley was also recognized with a Certificate of Excellence for Continuing Disclosure Reporting from Digital Assurance Certification. The certificate recognizes that the city has been in full compliance with Securities and Exchange Commission disclosure rules for the last 10 years.
