  • Leadership Series Luncheon Highlights Baldwin Health Expansion and Alzheimer’s Advancements

    Leadership Series

At the February South Baldwin Chamber of Commerce Leadership Series Luncheon presented by Vulcan, Inc., attendees received an impactful update from Baldwin Health on both facility expansion and major medical advancements.

Baldwin Health CEO Margaret Roley shared the latest on the hospital’s multi-phase expansion project. The new patient tower includes a spacious and welcoming front lobby, operating rooms, endoscopy suites, postoperative care areas, and a dedicated Women’s and Children’s Unit. Additional medical-surgical rooms and updated nursing stations will be housed on the upper floors.

The health system has also broadened its reach, now operating more than 30 care sites across the region—including urgent care clinics, a freestanding emergency department in Gulf Shores, and ten new Baldwin Health Medical Group locations. As the only CMS 5-star rated hospital in the area, Baldwin Health continues to lead in patient care and community access.

Following the expansion update, neurologist Dr. Harrison Pearl presented new developments in the diagnosis and treatment of Alzheimer’s disease. Traditional diagnosis methods are being replaced by advanced tools such as blood-based biomarkers and PET imaging, allowing physicians to detect Alzheimer’s at much earlier stages—even before clinical dementia begins.

Emerging treatment options, including the infusion therapies Leqembi and Kisunla, have shown success in slowing cognitive decline and reducing amyloid plaque buildup in the brain. Though not curative, these therapies can help extend the quality of life for patients in the early stages of the disease.

As healthcare systems prepare to meet the growing demand for early detection, imaging, and infusion services, Baldwin Health is positioning itself at the forefront of this evolving care model.

The luncheon served as an informative glimpse into the future of healthcare in Baldwin County—one marked by expanded access, early intervention, and innovative treatment options.
