  • New Year Brings Big Changes for the South Baldwin Chamber and Foundation

    (Foley, AL) – January is always a time of new beginnings and January 2021 is no exception. The South Baldwin Chamber has exciting news to share; we have two new employees joining our team, an upward move for one of our long-time team members, and a departure to announce.

    Gale Croft, Vice President of the South Baldwin Chamber Foundation, has accepted a new position with Big Brother Big Sisters as a Match Specialist. Gale has served at the helm of the South Baldwin Chamber Foundation for almost six years. Two years ago, she also took on the part-time role of handling the Chamber’s finances. Much has been accomplished under her leadership and vision.

    The South Baldwin Chamber Foundation could not be any luckier in finding a leader that is ready-made for taking the organization to a new level. Kylee Raulerson began her career at the South Baldwin Chamber of Commerce five years ago working as the part-time Event Assistant and part-time Assistant at the Foundation. Her role quickly expanded into a full-time staff member of the Events Team which led her into conducting and coordinating many of the events for both the Chamber and Foundation. Kylee has in-depth experience with many facets of the Foundation. She has a tremendous drive and passion for helping her hometown. We are very proud to announce Kylee Raulerson will be moving into the role of Executive Director of the South Baldwin Chamber Foundation. 

    With high hopes for the return of many of our events for 2021, we are delighted to announce Candice Workman has joined our Events Team as Event Operations Manager, and will be assisting with our 30+ events planned for the year. As one of our star volunteers and Diplomat, Candice is a welcome addition to the Chamber team. Her depth of experience in event planning, strong work ethic, and dedication to excellent customer service, makes her an exceptional match that will benefit our chamber and community. Our Events Team is eager and ready to rock the house in 2021. 

    In searching for an individual to manage the finances, we knew it would require a special person to oversee everything for our three different groups – Chamber, Foundation, Gateway – along with a robust number of events spread throughout the year. This requires someone with experience, a strong work ethic, a desire to help the community, as well as an outgoing personality. Derrick Cook checks every box and then some. As a Certified Public Account, we are confident our members will know their investment is in good hands with Derrick serving as our Vice President of Finance.  

    It has been said that “Change is the only constant.” At the South Baldwin Chamber of Commerce, we don’t shy away from change; we embrace it with a team dedicated to continuous improvement, achieving goals, and exceeding expectations.     New Location for the South Baldwin Chamber of Commerce

    FOLEY, AL (May 11, 2020) On June 1, 2020, the South Baldwin Chamber office will relocate to the 38,000 square foot building at 19812 Underwood Road in Foley. Joining the Chamber at this location will be the Gateway Initiative team — a workforce development and business advocacy collaboration between the South Baldwin and Coastal Alabama Business Chambers. “This is an extraordinary opportunity to provide a one-stop-shop for workforce development, business incubation and acceleration, access to exceptional employee training, professional development, and customer service," said Donna Watts, President and CEO of the South Baldwin Chamber.

    In addition to the Chamber and Gateway Initiative teams, the facility will house technical training programs offered by Coastal Alabama Community College, as well as dedicated space for our workforce development partners — the South Alabama Workforce Development Council (SAWDC), Southwest Alabama Partnership and Training Education (SWAPTE), the Small Business Development Center (SBDC), the Alabama Technology Network (ATN), the Alabama Restaurant & Hospitality Association (ARHA), and a variety of other business consulting services.

    "Coastal Alabama Community College is excited to launch additional programs in South Baldwin County to complement our existing presence. Training programs offered will be directly tied to the high demand industries in Baldwin County and the region including Construction, Healthcare, Hospitality, and Manufacturing. We will serve a wide range of community members including dual enrollment technical training for our high school students, adult education services including GED and High School equivalency, and credit and non-credit business and industry certifications." — Dr. Josh Duplantis, PhD, Dean of Workforce Development.

    This relocation of the South Baldwin Chamber of Commerce office creates an opportunity for other retailers to inhabit the available space and bring more traffic to the downtown area. The Chamber staff is delighted and eager for the opportunity to serve our business community in this exciting innovative and unparalleled capacity and looks forward to hosting a grand opening event in the near future.



  • CCAA Names Local Chambers as Accredited Alabama Chambers of Commerce

    CCAA Names Local Chambers as Accredited Alabama Chambers of Commerce 

    MONTGOMERY, AL – The Chamber of Commerce Association of Alabama (CCAA) announced today that two local chambers of commerce have received the Accredited Alabama Chamber of Commerce distinction (AACC). 

    The chambers of commerce receiving the AACC were Chilton County Chamber of Commerce and South Baldwin Chamber of Commerce. 

    The announcement was made at the CCAA’s summer convention in Gulf Shores. 

    One of the most prestigious programs of the Chamber of Commerce Association of Alabama is the Accredited Alabama Chamber program. The Accredited Alabama Chamber of Commerce program sets standards of excellence for chambers in the State of Alabama. It recognizes chambers that have achieved those standards while offering guidelines for those to improve their effectiveness. 

    The Accredited Alabama Chamber of Commerce program is designed to promote public awareness of the intent of the chamber of commerce brand as a not-for-profit community development- based business membership organization by providing a peer review process of generally accepted chamber of commerce organizational benchmarks. 

    The Accredited Alabama Chamber of Commerce program looks at six standard topics: Organization, Mission Focus, Professional Administration, Financial Management, Communications, and, Advocacy. 

    “As one of CCAA’s most prestigious programs, the Accredited Alabama Chamber of Commerce program shows that each chamber receiving the distinction is committed to the highest standards of organization management. This distinction recognizes local chambers of commerce in Alabama that strengthen free enterprise by protecting their local business environment,” said Heather Brothers New, President of The Chamber, Gadsden and Etowah County and the CCAA’s 2019 Chairwoman of the Board of Directors. “They most certainly represent the highest standards in our profession.” 

    Jeremy L. Arthur, President and CEO of the CCAA, said this local chamber of commerce is a true testament to the chamber profession. 

    “The accreditation process is very rigorous and highlights that each chamber is truly the ‘best of the best’ across our state,” Arthur said. “The commitment shown by each local chamber that receives the Accredited Alabama Chamber of Commerce distinction shows their continued commitment to the highest professional standards and assures their business members they are investing in an organization working on their behalf for the greater good.” 

    Since its beginning in 1937 as the Alabama Association of Commercial Organizations, what is now known as the Chamber of Commerce Association of Alabama has remained dedicated to advancing the goal that chambers of commerce are the premier local business advocate in the State of Alabama.   • Travis Valentine of The South Baldwin Chamber of Commerce Completes Third Year at Institute for Organization Management
    A Leadership Training Program Produced by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation

    WASHINGTON, D.C.— Institute for Organization Management, the professional development program of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation, is pleased to announce that Travis Valentine, Vice President of Investor Relations and Business Growth & Retention, of the South Baldwin Chamber of Commerce, has recently completed his third year at Institute for Organization Management, a four-year nonprofit leadership training program at Southeast Institute in Athens, Georgia. 

    “Institute graduates are recognized across the country as leaders in their industries and organizations,” said Raymond P. Towle, IOM, CAE, the U.S. Chamber Foundation’s vice president of Institute for Organization Management. “These individuals have the knowledge, skills, and dedication necessary to achieve professional and organizational success in the dynamic association and chamber industries.” 

    Since its commencement in 1921, the Institute program has been educating tens of thousands of association, chamber, and other nonprofit leaders on how to build stronger organizations, better serve their members and become strong business advocates. Institute’s curriculum consists of four weeklong sessions at five different university locations throughout the country. Through a combination of required courses and electives in areas such as leadership, advocacy, marketing, finance, and membership, Institute participants are able to enhance their own organizational management skills and add new fuel to their organizations, making them run more efficiently and effectively. 

    Institute for Organization Management is the professional development program of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation. It is the premier nonprofit professional development program for association and chamber professionals, fostering individual growth through interactive learning and networking opportunities.

  • This year’s Small Business of the Year award epitomizes why small businesses are the backbone of our economy. Their growth has been steady, both financially and within their workforce; providing their employee's security over the past 6 years. They are tireless advocates for the Chamber and for Baldwin County. We were excited to announce at the 75th Annual Gala, the Small Business of the Year award went to Tyler Higginbotham and Cindy Higginbotham owners of 5 Star Air Conditioning.

  • The South Baldwin Chamber Diplomat Program is a group of professionals who wish to serve their local business community while honing their leadership skills and increasing professional networks. The smiling faces of our Diplomats can be seen working the registration table at Business After Hours, the Leadership Series, and welcoming new businesses at Ribbon Cuttings. The 2018 Diplomat of the Year is Jerry “J.R.” Renkenberger, owner of Gulf Coast Virtual Tours. Many thanks to J.R. for going above and beyond the call of duty! The Chamber is fortunate to have him involved. 

  • Our 2018 Volunteer of the Year, previously serving on the Board of Directors, truly has a strong passion for giving his time and talents to others. His selfless dedication given not only toward the success of the Chamber and South Baldwin Community, but also as a mentor to students in our local schools.
