Secretary of State Wes Allen Reminds Alabamians of Important Absentee Voting Deadlines for April 16, 2024 Primary Runoff Election

Secretary of State Wes Allen wants to remind Alabama voters that county absentee election managers must receive mail-in absentee ballot applications by Tuesday, April 9, 2024. The deadline to return an absentee ballot application in person is Thursday, April 11, 2024. 

Absentee ballots being returned in-person must be received by the county absentee election manager by close of business on the day before the election- April 15, 2024. Absentee ballots returned by mail must be received no later than noon on Election Day- April 16, 2024.

Under Alabama law, if a voter casts a ballot in the primary election and wants to vote in the primary runoff election, he or she must vote in the runoff election of the same party they chose in the primary election. If a voter did not participate in the primary election or only voted a constitutional amendment ballot, they may still vote in the primary runoff election for either party. 

Voters are required to present a valid form of photo identification before voting at their polling place or by absentee ballot.
