  • Join The Lighthouse in the Fight against Sexual Assault

Robertsdale, AL – The Lighthouse, together with other advocates, survivors, and supporters recognizes April as Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM). The Lighthouse has planned a month-long campaign aimed at engaging the public in the prevention of sexual assault and bringing awareness to the resources available for victims and survivors.

The Lighthouse’s Take Back The Night Event will be held on Monday, April 22nd at 6 pm at Coastal Alabama Community College, Bay Minette Campus. Members of the community are encouraged to join us at this event to show their support for survivors of sexual assault.
Rhyon Ervin, Executive Director of The Lighthouse, says, “It is extremely important to bring awareness to this crime and its impact on individuals, families, and the community. It is equally important to continue to offer hope to those who have experienced sexual assault and to celebrate those who have moved beyond it. These are our sentiments not only during Sexual Assault Awareness Month but throughout the year.”

Nearly 1 in 5 women in the United States have experienced rape or attempted rape at some time in their lives (nsvrc.org). Anyone, regardless of gender, race, sexual identity or orientation, or socio-economic status, can become a victim of sexual assault. Our hope is that by promoting safe behaviors, thoughtful policies, and helpful relationships, we can create safe and equitable communities where every person is treated with respect. Everyone can play a role in preventing sexual assault.

The mission of The Lighthouse is the elimination of family violence and sexual assault through education, intervention, services, and collaboration with the community. A non-profit agency founded in 1994, The Lighthouse provides sexual assault services to Baldwin and Escambia counties in Alabama, as well as domestic violence services to Baldwin and surrounding counties.
